The Challenge
Groupe GCL has hired most of their junior employees during the pandemic lockdown, so none of the new employees has met in person or been to the office. Also, they usually organize international trips for their team but this year, due to the crisis, they didn’t have the chance to go anywhere.
The goal of this event was to welcome new employees and thank them for their hard work. We wanted to do something significant as an event like this has never been organized. We also wanted to create face-to-face connections and help them familiarize themselves with the areas around the office as most employees don’t live around the area and have never been around due to covid-19.
Exploring Quartier Saint-Henri
As one of the main goals was to show the new team members around the office area, Small Talk decided to organize a scavenger hunt in Quartier Saint-Henri as this is where the office is located.
3 teams had to solve 20 enigmas about the culture and history of Saint-Henri in 2 hours. 4 of the enigmas lead to free tasting sessions in local restaurants and cafés. The team who scored the most points won the game and was rewarded with a gift certificate at Messorem Bracitorium for each team member.
There was an event coordinator cycling around the district during the activity in order to ensure the activity run smoothly, answer questions, fix problems and make sure that all teams were having a good time.
Venues
Each team member paid a visit and had a free snack at:
Adamo Pizza
Each had a slice of pizza of their choice
Trancatine
Each had a veggie spring roll
Campanelli Food
Each had a drink of their choice
Taco Victor MTL
Each had a taco
Apéro Time
After the game, there was an apéro in Canal de Lachine. In Apéro, you usually stop doing what they’re doing and convene for a drink over small plates. There was a picnic set up with music, popsicles, drinks, snacks and personalized gifts. Each team member received a branded tote bag with a different gift. This is when Small Talk came to play!
As a result, team members enjoyed the time outside, not thinking about work and getting to know the people they were working with for nearly a year. Doing the scavenger hunt was about encouraging people to take ownership of their ideas, express themselves, and become more comfortable with other teammates. They also felt a boost in their confidence and increased their leadership skills.
